Brussels-based artist Adja is releasing her third single ‘Package delivered by tomorrow’ from the upcoming album ‘Golden Retrieve Her’, and it’s prefaced with some story-time:
“Humanity (AI) has found a way to extract certain types of feelings out of people’s bodies, like hope, relief and joy, and concentrate those feelings into purchasable injections, to be bought and delivered on a subscription-base.
The antagonist? A regular degular person, with dreams of their own, but for now, stuck in a delivery-service-job. He drives around while daydreaming about the things he’s going to do for himself and his future, on the weekend.
Simultaneously he’s being slightly harassed by a telemarketer who won’t stop calling him. She desperately wants to sell him the subscription for their happiness-injections - as she works on commission and has dreams of her own to invest in. Both stuck in the same loop.” ~ Adja
‘Package Delivered by Tomorrow’, a dystopian yet poppy neo-soul tribute to Stevie Wonder and Erykah Badu (those a fan of ‘Signed, sealed, delivered’ and ‘I’ll call you back’ will get it). This one is heavy on the groove, because as the hamster wheel turns, Adja wants to give us something to dance to.
With this third single, we also get a third tarot card: The Mirror. It symbolizes lost opportunities for connections as well as inner projections within our relationships with strangers.
‘Package Delivered by Tomorrow’ was co-produced with British producer and musician Adam Scrimshire. In 2022 Scrimshire was named in the Guardian as one of three crucial soul-music producers in the UK today (alongside Inflo and Swindle).
